As a private patient, you can choose your own surgeon or doctor from our exceptional team, who are skilled in traditional and minimally-invasive surgical procedures.
Our doctors and surgeons work collaboratively with each other as part of a multi-disciplinary approach to care. They work with highly-skilled anaesthetists and clinical teams in the operating theatres, endoscopy suites and are committed to providing you with the best possible outcome.
The private patient experience at John Fawkner Private Hospital
When you choose to be a private patient you’ll enjoy rapid access to diagnostic procedures, surgery and be able to choose your own doctors.
You’ll have access to support teams and allied health who provide care in the hospital. These include accredited physiotherapists, occupational therapists, stomal therapists, wound nurses, dietitians and speech pathologists.
Our friendly Bookings and Admission team will answer any questions you have in person or over the phone. They’ll escort you and your support person to speak with the patient admissions team before going through to theatre.
Recovery
After surgery you can expect wonderful care in post operations unit followed by care on one of our fully-monitored patient wards. There, our dedicated and experienced nurses will support your recovery and ensure your comfort.
The team in the Operating theatres, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and Patient wards at John Fawkner Private Hospital are experts at providing specialised post-surgery care.

We’re fully equipped to provide an extensive range of general and complex surgeries, both elective and life-saving procedures.
When you choose to be a private patient with us, you get access to minimal wait times for diagnostic procedures and surgery – in weeks, not months and you can choose your own surgeon.
Your surgery will be performed in one of our 5 state-of-the-art operating theatres, where specialists can also perform diagnostic procedures including endoscopy, gastroscopy and colonoscopy.
Out-of-pocket fees
As with most surgeries performed in a private hospital there are out-of-pocket fees. Your chosen specialist can give you an indication of out-of-pocket specialist fees and will work with the hospital to provide you with an overall estimate. Your private health fund will be able to advise whether your treatment is covered under your chosen health cover.
No private health insurance?
If you don’t have private health insurance or you’re an overseas patient, you can choose to self-fund your surgery. Your specialist can talk to you about this option and can provide an estimate of costs to you.
