Graduate Nurse Program

The aim of the graduate program at John Fawkner Private Hospital is to provide a program that develops the confidence and competence of the graduate nurse and facilitates the transition from the role of student to registered nurse and endorsed enrolled nurse.

Both graduate programs include:

  • 3 x 4 month rotations through a mixture of ward departments including but not limited to:
    • Oncology Medical ward, General Surgical ward, Orthopaedic/Plastics/Neurological Surgical Ward and General Medical Ward, Day of Surgery department and/or Day infusion Centre.
    • Peri-operative program; 2 x 6 month rotations of either: Surgical ward and Theatre or Surgical ward and Day of Surgery department
  • Great opportunities for career development in a supportive environment

  • 5 paid study days and debrief sessions across the program
  • A supportive program with educator support and nominated preceptors for initial and ongoing support

Selection criteria:

  • Eligibility for registration as a nurse with AHPRA
  • Working with children check
  • Compliance with ACSQHC national standards
  • Graduated within last twelve months
  • Flexible to undertake full or part time (min 30 hrs pw) employment on a 7-day rotating roster
  • High-level of interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Team focused
  • Overseas students must have documented proof of English language skills to an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) Academic Band 7 or evidence of a booking for an IELTS test at the time of interview (OET test will also be accepted) [Visa must be independently sourced and must be able to work 30 hrs per week]

There are two intakes across the year and will be advertised on the Healthscope Careers website, Seek, Indeed, LinkedIn and Grad Connect.

How to Apply:

  • Address a one-page cover letter stating how your student experiences, placements and work have prepared you for your graduate year, how you demonstrate the Healthscope Safe Values and why you want to work at John Fawkner Private Hospital.
  • Include a brief CV of no more than 3 pages with at least two clinical references included (one referee must be a clinical teacher, preceptor, or other senior nurse that you have reported to at a clinical placement)
  • Provide most recent academic transcript with result legend
  • Include copies of final assessment for two recent clinical placement appraisals
